Just A Showman.

It’s the end of the year and with it comes the decision of which new movie I should see. I’m a Star Wars fan, having seen all the other movies and loving the action. I’m a sucker for a good sing-a-long movie like Pitch Perfect 3.

I’m here to tell you that Star Wars can wait and you can learn the words to Pitch Perfect later.

The movie everyone should see is The Greatest Showman and let me tell you why.

There are lots of standout moments from the movie, but my favorite is just a couple of words.

“Celebration of humanity”.

While this movie is a tale of P.T. Barnum and how his circus came to be, I believe that this movies did an amazing job of showcasing just that.

Now jump back a couple of years and my knowledge on P.T. Barnum is very minimal. I know his name was half of a very famous circus and once I became a communications major I found out a little more.

In school, they like to talk about Barnum as one of the pillars of communications, more specifically, they talked about him in a public relations class I took. His motto was “the public be fooled” with the example of the egress. (If you don’t know the story, look it up. It’s actually kinda interesting.)

I’m not saying they make him out to be a bad guy, but you definitely get the con-artist feel.

He may be a trickster, but this movie shows a whole other side. It shows that someone who has nothing can make something of themselves, but that sometimes having everything isn’t everything.

A big part of the movie was how Barnum took people who were different and made them feel like they were part of something bigger. The song “This Is Me” brought me to tears because I hate thinking about how people feel broken because other people make them feel ashamed of themselves when they have nothing to be ashamed of.

In a world where so much of this very thing is happening, this movie was a real eye opener to how cruel and afraid of change some people can be. It was also a reminder of how brave other really are.

“You are putting folks of all kinds on stage with you, presenting them as equals.”

I can tell you how great the costumes were, the sets the music and the actors, but your don’t need me to because you already know. I mean period pieces are always amazing. It’s New York City, enough said. Music from the people who wrote the music for La La Land. Hugh Jackman. Zac Efron. Zendaya. That is all.

Go and see it for yourselves, trust me you aren’t gonna want to miss it.

Dream I Never Had: Realized.

Hey guys!

I’m sure many of you are bored with the repetitious entertainment blogs I post every week. Bare with me please because the semester is almost over.

Today I am talking about a class I’m in. At my school, our capstone class is the course that is suppose to take more work than the others. In a sense getting you ready for the real world and the type of job you are probably looking for in your field.

My field being journalism, we could pick one of two directions: print or broadcast.

Now I hate public speaking so naturally I went to print, especially because I have hopes of becoming an editor at a publishing company which would be print and not broadcast.

Anyway, the class is basically working for the school newspaper and to get points for the class we have to publish stories.

That’s right, you are looking at a published writer!

I never thought I would want to be a writer and I’m still not sure, but it feels really good to see my name in print and my words on the page.

I am going to post the links to my articles below. Feel free to read them and tell me what you think!

Hey guys.

Friday, October 6th was the 7th season premiere of Once Upon A Time. This new season brings with it new characters, some old ones and a new story. Once Upon A Time just barely scraped by, landing a renewal at the eleventh hour. The show is getting a reboot of sorts. A lot of the main cast for the past six years are leaving, contracts are up, and now the show is essentially starting over. “Just on a conceptional level, it’s the same show. We’re trying to tell the same kind of stories and honor the DNA of what Once Upon a Time was from the very start” (ew.com).

Justin Kirkland, ew.com, recaps the seventh season opener, giving the episode an A-. “Who among us hasn’t found our long-lost birth mother, defeated the greatest sum of evil over the course of six seasons, seen our grandparents die every which way to Sunday, turned back all those advancements for one final curse, beaten said curse, sat down for dinner, wrote a book on all those wonderful stories, seen it all fall apart, and then been greeted at our door by a little girl looking to do the same thing you did years back? It’s a tale as old as time. So as we welcome Once Upon a Time back, we’re ready because, in a way, haven’t we been here before,” writes Kirkland. The entire episode artfully echoes the pilot from 6 years ago while still standing on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Vlada Gelman, tvline.com, discusses a theory about the new promotional photos for the second episode of the season. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) is back for her last episode ever! She will be reprising her role as savior, Henry’s mother and Hook’s wife in order to give the audience closure and to explain why her character isn’t around anymore. “In these new photos from the episode, Morrison’s Emma shares some emotional moments with both her husband Hook and her grown-up son Henry. The two men also embrace as the blonde lovingly looks on. Then there’s that other (potential) familial exchange: In one eyebrow-raising image, the couple appears to be clutching Emma’s stomach. Could the Savior be pregnant?!”

Hey guys!

It’s time for a little celebrity news in the form of Gigi Hadid.

Gigi is doing well in her clothing collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger. She currently has three collections with the fashion designer. Channing Hargrove, refinery29.com, tells of how the pervious collections we so well received that a third was a must. “The collection will be available on Tuesday, September 19, immediately after the show at Camden’s Roundhouse, so watch the model style, design, and literally rock the collection below to plot your shopping attack,” Hargrove writes.

In conjunction with this upcoming achievement, Gigi has been taking some heat from over on the other side of the world.

Victoria’s Secret has recently announced how its upcoming fashion show will be held in Shanghai, China for the first time ever, with Gigi Hadid among the many returning models.

Tracy You, dailymail.co.uk, goes on to talk about the controversy over a photo Gigi’s sister posted months ago on Instagram. “In the clip, which was later deleted, Gigi and friends can be seen at a restaurant, where several are singing Happy Birthday. Gigi holds up a cookie in the shape of the Buddha, then smiles and squints her eyes to imitate his face,” Tracy describes. Hadid has gotten thousands upon thousands of comments from people in China telling her, “Don’t come to Shanghai. You’re not welcome here. Screw off!”, and many more of the same.

Since, Gigi has made a public apology, but it has done little to smooth things over.

Hey guys!

Last night was the premiere of the new season of American Horror Story: Cult. My question for you is, did you join?

This season of AHS follows the aftermath of Donald Trump being elected as president and how this outcome affects the lives of two people to the extreme. On one hand you have Ally (Sarah Paulson), a woman who has many phobias and fears that with Trump as president her marriage to her wife and the child they have together will be threatened. She starts to see scary clowns that she believes are trying to kill her because her anxiety is through the roof due to the election results. On the other side is Kai (Evan Peters), a Trump supporter who is thrilled that he won the election and begins to start acting out in ways that are unacceptable to the public but he feels are now okay since Donald Trump is now president. Kai believes we should now be enticing fear into the public as a way to better control and protect them.

The first article written by Daniel D’Addario, time.com, tells of how AHS: Cult has hit the nail on the head of its portrayal. “His latest show is a masterful look at the assignment of blame and a reshuffling of our society that’s yet to resolve itself.,” said D’Addario.

Next is an article by Tim Stack, ew.com, citing how Ryan Murphy, one of  the creators of AHS sort of said all the seasons are connected. “Now AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy seems to confirm one theory that AHS is representing the 9 stages of hell,” Stack says.  Following this theory, Murphy mentions in an instagram post how this season, Cult, would line up with heresy. Heresy is basically the denial of the soul’s immortality.

If the first episode is any indication, the rest of the season is only going to get better. With some of my personal favorites like Colton Haynes and Emma Roberts to make appearances later in the season, you can bet I will be at my tv every Tuesday night.

Back Again.

Hey guys!

Let’s just get right to it. I am in one of my final semesters at school and for one of my classes I have to write a blog on news. I decided to do mine of entertainment news.

This series will be called “Here We Are Now, Entertain Us,” after the song Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I will be posting twice a week through out the semester.

Wish me luck!
